We already covered how to set up Text Message Forwarding from your iPhone to another iOS device or Mac, but there was a key troubleshooting element we unknowingly left out of the guide.
As mentioned in the original story, you need to have iMessage enabled on your iPhone in order to enable text message forwarding. More importantly, however, you need to have an email address enabled in iMessage settings during the setup process, as discovered by MacRumors. If not, you're likely to run into an issue where the activation code never appears on your iPad or Mac.
If you attempt to enable text message forwarding but the activation code never shows up, here's what you need to do:
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down to the Messages option and tap on it.
- Tap on Send & Receive.
- Enable an email address by tapping on it. A check mark will be placed next to it once it's active.
I am here to proudly bring you instructions on how to set up text message forwarding under iOS 8.1 and later. First, you must have an iPhone 4s or later running at least iOS 8.1. Second, you must have any iPad or iPod Touch, also running at least iOS 8.1. If you plan to enable your mac for text. Go to Settings > Messages on your iPhone and tap on Text Messages Forwarding. You will see your Mac (or Macs) listed here with an on off slider beside them. Enter the code shown on your Mac to.
Now, back out of the Send & Receive section and request another activation code be sent to one of your devices. Easy, right?
The MacRumors report goes on to say you can go back and disable the email address after all of your devices are set up and everything will remain working.

Code Shown On Mac For Text Message Forwarding Service
As soon as iOS 8.1 hit two days ago, I immediately went about checking out a pair of new features I care about the most, Text Message Forwarding and iPhone Cellular Calls.
As a quick reminder, Text Message Forwarding lets me mirror text messages sent to my iPhone in the Messages app on the Mac or iPad. With iPhone Cellular Calls turned on, I can finally make and receive phone calls on my other Mac and iOS devices through my iPhone’s cellular connection.
But something was amiss, or so I thought, because I just couldn’t get either feature to work. While attempting to enable Text Message Forwarding, the system prompted me to enter a confirmation code my Mac was supposed to generated, but didn’t.
Likewise, trying to enable iPhone Cellular Calls yielded a FaceTime error message saying my devices must use the same iCloud account, even though I was using FaceTime without any problems before.
Having spent a few hours restoring my devices as new, reseting network settings, changing settings on my router and checking the status of iCloud services, I eventually came to the same realization as did the other affected users: Text Message Forwarding requires you to use an email address and for iPhone Cellular Calls to work properly, FaceTime must be signed in with your Apple ID.
The problem is, I removed the other day all of the previously added email addresses from both FaceTime and iMessage. The thing is, I don’t want anyone to be able to FaceTime me or send me iMessages using anything other than my phone number.
Another reason: I loathe it when iMessage creates two conversation threads, one for messages sent to my phone number and the other for those reaching me through an iMessage email address.
So this is what happens if you try to enable iPhone Cellular Calls in your iPhone’s Settings but are not signed in to FaceTime with your Apple ID or iCloud account.
The cryptic error message doesn’t provide as much as a hint of what a user needs to do in order to make it work. Same goes when attempting to turn on Text Message Forwarding to the Mac in iMessage on the iPhone, if iMessage is configured to only use your phone number.
I was waiting there clueless because my Mac just wouldn’t generate a verification code, even though Messages automatically opened on the machine.
If you, like many other people, have simply flipped the Settings > Messages > iMessage and Settings > Messages > FaceTime switches to ON without fiddling with the additional buttons, these services are probably enabled on your phone number only.
To start enjoying Text Message Forwarding and iPhone Cellular Calls on the Mac or iPad, you need to add an email address to iMessage and use FaceTime with your Apple ID/iCloud, here’s how.
How to enable Text Message Forwarding
Step 1: Go to your iPhone’s Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and choose “Use your Apple ID for iMessage”.
Step 2: You’ll be prompted to enter your Apple ID user name and password. After logging in successfully, iOS then offers to enable iMessage with the email address(es) associated with your Apple ID, in addition to your phone number.
Step 3: Tap at least one email address to enable it and then hit Next.
Tip: Don’t have an iMessage-enabled email address stored in your Apple ID? Tap ”Add An Email…” to add one. You’ll need to click a confirmation link Apple will send to this address.
Note: I’ve garbled my personal information for privacy reasons.
Step 4: Go back to iMessage settings and hit Text Message Forwarding. You should be now presented with a list of all your devices enabled with the same iCloud account as this iPhone.
Choosing any device will put up a prompt requiring you to enter a six-digit code generated on your other device. At this point, I’ll just go ahead and enable Text Message Forwarding to my Mac.
Step 5: Messages on the Mac or iPad opens automatically and creates a one-time verification code, like this.
And this is what code generation looks like on the iPad.
Step 6: Input this code into your iPhone, as shown below.
Repeat the steps to enable Text Message Forwarding on your other devices.
As illustrated on the screenshot below, I am now able to receive and send text messages using my iPhone’s cellular service on both my iPad Air and MacBook Air.
That’s it — any text messages sent to my iPhone will now be available on my Mac and iPad alongside regular iMessages, right in the Messages app.
Bluetooth is not required for Text Message Forwarding and your devices don’t need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Jeff has put together a nice video tutorial showing using Text Message Forwarding in OS X Yosemite in greater detail so give it a read to learn more about this great new feature.
How to enable iPhone Cellular Calls
Step 1: Go to your iPhone’s Settings > FaceTime and choose “Use your Apple ID for FaceTime”.
Step 2: You’ll be prompted to enter your Apple ID user name and password. After logging in successfully, iOS offers to enable FaceTime on one or more email addresses associated with your Apple ID, in addition to your phone number.
Step 3: Tap at least one email address to enable it. Hit Next in the upper right to save your changes.
Step 4: You can now flip the iPhone Cellular Calls switch on the previous screen to ON. Don’t forget to do this on your other devices as well, like the iPad or the Mac. On the Mac, just fire up the FaceTime app, go to settings and tick the iPhone Cellular Calls box under the Settings tab, as seen on the screenshot below.
Unlike Text Message Forwarding, this feature doesn’t require you to enter a verification code into your iPhone. Just flip the switch and you’re good to go.
Congratulations, your iPhone will now route phone calls to your other devices and you’ll be able to place phone calls on your iPad or Mac, using an iPhone that’s in your pocket.
Keep in mind that iPhone Cellular Calls requires that all your devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, you won’t be able to make or receive phone calls.

Mac Search Files For Text

Good day, I recently noticed that my Mac is not searching inside files any more. If you notice, when you put in a search string at the search bar in Finder, Mac will also look up that string inside files it can read the text in (Word, Powerpoint, TextEdit files, even Java, PHP, C/C++ files -- as long as the file can be read as text).
For example, if you look up 'Hello World', it's going to look for all files containing in their filename and in their file content the string 'Hello World' and show those files.
This is very handy because I can just search up a line of code I want to search and then all the files with that line of code will show up, I wouldn't have to check every file individually as it will get very tedious once the files in my code work reach 20+ files.
Does anyone know how to make Finder search within files again? I've tried resetting my laptop, as well as PRAM and SMC but to no avail.

Have you entered some text in columns separated by tabs and you want to convert it to a table? Word provides a useful feature that allows you to quickly convert text to a table and a table to text.
You can convert text separated by a specific character, such as a tab, into a table. We will show you how to do this and how to convert the table back to text.
For example, say you have some text listing months and their corresponding number of days. Before we work on converting the text to a table, you may want to view the formatting and paragraph marks so you can see how your text is separated. To do that, click the paragraph button in the Paragraph section of the Home tab.
The tabs and paragraph marks display. If you’re converting some text to a two-column table, be sure you only have one tab between the items on each line. Select the lines of text you want to convert to a table.
Click the Insert tab and click Table in the Table section. Select Convert Text to Table from the drop-down menu.
On the Convert Text to Table dialog box, the Number of columns should already be set to 2 if you have only one tab between each item on each line. The Number of rows is automatically calculated.
Specify the width of the columns in the table by selecting an option under AutoFit behavior. We decided to make each column just wide enough to fit the contents by selecting AutoFit to contents.
Specify the character you used to separate the text on each line under Separate text at. In our example, we selected Tabs. You could also use other characters such as commas or paragraph marks. You can even specify a character not listed by selecting Other and entering the character in the edit box.
Mac Text File
Now that you have converted your text to a table, you can easily convert it back to text. To do this, select the table by moving your cursor over the table handle in the upper, left corner of the table and select it. This highlights the whole table.
NOTE: If you didn’t have a consistent number of separator characters on each line, you may end up with more rows and columns than you intended and the text might not be placed correctly.
The Table Tools tabs become available. Click the Layout tab.
In the Data section of the Layout tab, click Convert to Text.
On the Convert Table to Text dialog box, select the character you want to use to separate the columns of text. For our example, we want to separate the text using Tabs. Click OK.
Each row of the table becomes a line of text with tabs separating the items from the columns of the table. Word automatically inserts a tab marker on the ruler to line up the items from the columns of the table.
This feature is handy if you have some text from another document that was not arranged as a table originally, but you want it in table format. Simply make sure the separator characters for each line are set correctly and then convert the text to a table.

Click to expand.i hear you. Especially because you are a teacher, i really empathize with you. I haven't looked up in which countries teachers are considered highly skilled and are therefore paid appropriately, but i am sure they are few.
Its a world wide social problem i think. Whether it be in india, china, spain, or the usa. Fortunately, apple is selling some great devices that do meet teacher's needs. I am not a teacher, but think that most teachers don't really need a MacBook Pro anyway for their daily work. As apple has integrated better tech into its products even the MacBook 12' model in its base model configuration is usually sufficient for most teachers. Having said that, the MacBook base model is definitely not inexpensive.
The good news is that a lower priced MacBook (possibly MacBook Air) model is rumored to be on the way (maybe even launching this month). Longer term, the even better news is that we are about only 1 more generational improvement away from the iPad Pro being the device that most of us can use for our work, teacher or otherwise. I dont think its there yet though. I dont think there is anything wrong with apple's marketing or sales strategies to aim at the top tier for each of its product categories.
So i dont blame apple for being able to demand top prices for its products. I am thankful that each year the base models are able to do more and more, and the integration of its products through iCloud is allowing so much more to be done better, faster, and more conveniently in a more secure platform. All of that is giving each of us more power and more control. Aside from the used market where you can certainly find deals on gently loved Mac and PC computers, there are also some more budget friendly devices such as Hauwei and some lower priced Dell, Lenovo, HP lines.
Apple chooses to not make a budget line. I do wish they would.

Sorry for the rant. I think many people here missed the point. Instead of attacking him, or telling him he doesn't need a new Mac or a powerful one, just look at the issue itself. MacBooks Pros are expensive, we had many people already state especially in the UK that the Macs are priced exorbitantly and they cannot justify (or afford). Its seems odd now that you're blaming the OP instead of looking at its Apple charging the premium. The OP has options to be sure, refurbs, used, or older models, but that doesn't get away from the fact that apple has priced these at a level that makes it hard for many people to justify and/or afford the laptops. From my perspective, I chafe under the get an older model suggestions because the OP can buy a nicely equipped brand new PC that is a lot less then a MBP.
If I'm plunking down close to 2,000 dollars I don't want a used machine. For some that's a great suggestion and maybe for the OP, but I'm just taking my personal perspective and I'd want a new machine. To me MBPs are expensive and while this post was on a fan site where many folks will justify apple's pricing because they support apple zealously, its my opinion that MBPs are too expensive.
Here we are with another thread about how expensive Apple products are. As they ALWAYS have been. It's really tiring to see these posts. With a new Apple Computer you get: - Operating system included at no additional cost with free updates for years. Apple started that. Microsoft still charges, especially if you want enterprise features. Office products free of charge with updates for years.
Virus and Malware protection at no additional cost. Hardware that will last. Never had issues with Apple cases. It's rare for a windows based machine to last 10 years as the OP stated. Trend the cost over 10 years and it's cheaper than Windows. My family bought an Apple in the early 80's.
IN those dollars it cost more than $5K for the computer, two 5 1/4' floppy drives, monochrome monitor, and Paper Tiger impact printer. Much more expensive than what you get today for less than 1/2 the cost. I really can't believe people whine about not being able to afford something when there are other options as others have posted.
I mean holy mother of god.I can't afford a Million dollar house on the water. Those damn builders and property owners sure are greedy bastards! They should lower their costs! Why is Apple expected to have lower prices? High premium prices is what Apple is known for. But here is the thing, you do not have a purchase any Apple product.
The beauty of it all is there are alternatives out there. Apple is a business. They are not a charity. They have a product. It’s your choice if you want to buy or not. If it’s too expensive for you move on to something else. I want a Rolls Royce.
However they are well out of my budget, but I’m not going to complain about how expensive they are, compared to other car brands. I’ll admire them from afar while I purchase and drive an alternative vehicle that fits into my financial lifestyle. I don’t expect Rolls Royce to lower their prices to fit my budget. I would have been a teacher and a GREAT teacher however they do not get paid well and the amount of education required (I believe a masters degree is education is required) in many districts makes it incredibly tough.
Props to anyone who decides to become a teacher, not for me. It is truly phenomenal that computers have become so main stream that teachers need to have them in order to get our youth on a higher platform and accustomed to using them. My mother was a Developer and instead of getting a console I got computers and that single decision has probably changed my own life significantly. Getting back on topic, having used a plethora of different laptops, I don't know why a teacher would need a 15 inch macbook pro.
I believe a Macbook or even a Macbook Air or a lower speced 13 inch macbook should suffice. Could you explain why a 15 inch pro is needed? We have hit a point in time where the hardware is severely over performing to the everyday tasks of the everyday user. Hell All I do is build databases and all of my systems out perform my tasks tenfold, and I'm not even a teacher.
You could always get a second job temporarily to help save for it. You can't ask us to make a judgement without providing the full facts i.e. What you earn and what you spend your money on.
For all we know you might gamble, smoke, etc. Just to be clear, I am not making a judgement on those expense choices as they are up to the individual but how do we know you spend your money wisely? As someone else said, there are thriving refurb and second hand markets. If you have a 10 year old model why not buy a 5 year old one?
Your problem seems to be you want something to be cheaper than it is and that isn't going to happen. As with any product we can't afford, we can either increase our income, save up for it, put ourselves in debt (not recommended) or buy something cheaper. We all wish Apple products were cheaper but it's up to them what they charge. We are very lucky in that with tech we have a sea of product options from many manufacturers at many price points.

Set It Right Before you begin adding images, you will have to configure Word to play nice with pictures.
